Mui Erkun

Chief of Staff of the Chief Procurement Officer, U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security

Mr. Erkun assumed his duties as the first Chief of Staff for the Chief Procurement Officer of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on October 21, 2003. He believes that DHS has one of the most important and demanding jobs in the world and that the acquisition organization must be creative, responsive and customer focused and must also recognize the important role of the private sector in supporting DHS. Mui, also serves as the Director of Industry and Acquisition Relations program. In this capacity he focuses on how to do business with DHS and project a one face for the acquisition program.

Mr. Erkun has enjoyed a long career in the public service. He came to DHS from the Internal Revenue Service where he served from 2001 to 2003 as the Executive Officer to the Agency Wide Shared Services organization providing procurement, customer service, personnel, facilities, and EEO support to the IRS. From 1991 to 2001, Mr. Erkun served as the Director of Procurement Solutions Center and before that in a variety of positions within the Assistant Commissioner for Procurement area in IRS as a contract specialist, administrator and contracting officer. From 1982 to 2005 he has served in the US Air Force as a Logistics Officer on worldwide assignments.

Mui holds a bachelor degree in Linguistics from Ankara University and an additional bachelor and master in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in Arizona.
