NTA Promotional Activities 2002

Material World

The American Flock Association exhibited representative flocked fabrics and finished garments and decorative items at the Material World Show in Miami Beach on October 7-9, 2002.

Representatives of member companies who staffed the booth included Ken Brown of Spectro Coating, Kaaren Chinello of Fiberlok, Maureen Owen of Microfibres, Tom Witham of Synthon Industries, and Judy Garren of Fifield Fabrics.

Activity at the show, which targeted the apparel and home decorative markets, was strong and the booth staff felt that he show went well. Their comments included:

  • “I thought that the Material World Show was very effective. We were able to both educate the attendees and gather a healthy amount of good leads.”
  • “The explanation of flocking was a nice touch and all of the “flocked products” were a welcome addition and possibly contributed to the positive response of the attendees as they passed by the booth.”
  • “I would recommend exhibiting again at Material World”
  • “We always do a lot of educating at shows.”
  • “We need a show like this. I thought the traffic was pretty good the first two days.”

The Material World Show will be held now in March and September/October. The AFA will plan for future attendance at one of the shows each year, probably the fall show which targets the Fall/Winter season one year in advance.

NeoCon

The American Flock Association exhibited at the NEOCON World’s Trade Fair in Chicago, Illinois, June 10-12, the third year of its effort to increase exposure of flocked products in the contract furniture and fabrics market.

Executive Director Barry Ripley was joined by member representatives Peter Hadley, Ken Brown,Tom Witham, Maureen Owen, Alex Fergus, and Judy Garren in presenting a wide range of concepts and flocked fabrics and furniture components.

While attendance at the Show was generally considered to be off from previous years, we felt that we were successful in providing show goers with an introduction to the capabilities of flock and made several key contacts with potential new members and sales leads.

The AFA is evaluating whether the initial goal of market exposure has been met and whether to continue its presence at NEOCON or to move to other venues in the future.
