Markbilt, Inc. was begun in 1974 by Mark L. Woltin. With Newark, NJ as its base Markbilt was founded to serve a market need for fine gauge spandex fabrics.

The company was a member of NTA from the August 7, 2002 merger with the Knitted Textile Association until July 20, 2004.

Markbilt was acquired by Safer Textiles and closed with a loss of 30 non-union jobs in Hawthorne, New Jersey.
