Wellman was a manufacturer of polyester staple fiber until 2008 and of wool top until 1999.
On February 26, 2008, Textile News reported that Wellman Inc. had filed voluntary
petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code for the Southern District of New York.
On September 16, 2008 Wellman, Inc. announced that it exiting the polyester staple fiber market
and closing its Palmetto and Johnsonville, S.C. plants.
The company was a KTA member which became NTA member at August 2002 merger; resigned March 29, 2004.
