Massive seizure of the revenue police in Florence: more than 510.000 fake articles discovered.

(Agi) – Florence, Oct. 4 – Massive confiscation by the Revenue Police (Guardia di Finanza = GdF) of Florence, more than 510,000 false labels confiscated, a Chinese man informed against. The fight of GdF of Florence is in fact unceasingly continuing against the illicit behaviours relative to trade marks counterfeiting and to the “made in” protection or to products which are not complying with the European and national safety standards and regarding the fundamental need for safeguarding the rules of market functioning and consumers’ health. This phenomenon is more and more concerning textile products with false signs and labels about quality and composition of said products and therefore such as to mislead the purchasers. The revenue officers of the police team of Florence, following specific controls of the clothing sector, both at retail and wholesale levels, have located at Sesto Fiorentino, on the edge of Florence a company managed by a citizen of Chinese origin which was importing from China huge quantities of textile products, in particular scarves and shawls, bearing labels indicating various fibre contents, as for example, “100% cashmere”; “70% cashmere, 30% silk”; “100% wool”; 50% wool, 50% viscose; etc. After having carried out specific technical activities of analysis, it came out that such products were not in compliance with the national and European regulations of this sector, since they were composed of completely different fibres and of very low value in comparison to the ones declared, as for instance, viscose, polyester and acrylic. The imported products were then sold on the entire territory of Italy and EU. In particular, during the intervention, more than 510,000 textile products (scarves, shawls, etc.) have been confiscated. These articles could have yielded at the retail 5 million Euros. The 47 years old Chinese man, company’s owner, has been informed against to the competent Public Prosecutor’s office for fraud in trade and sale with mendacious signs. (AGI)

For instance, on labels were shown fabrics of cashmere, silk or 100% and 70% wool, but the tests carried out by the policemen have revealed that they were of completely different fibres and of much less value than the declared ones, for example viscose rayon, polyester and acrylic. The imported products, with their fake labels, were then marketed on the whole Italian and European territory. The principal of this firm has been informed against.

Scarves and shawls would have yielded about 5 million Euros if sold at retail. Of course it is not the first time that police discovers warehouses with in their inside “mountains” of material imported from China. Recently in a shed at Osmannoro thousands of  illegal toys have been discovered.
