CCMI President Visits Hong Kong, Japan

Mr. Karl Spilhaus, President of the Cashmere and Camel Hair Manufacturers Institute has recently returned from a trip to Asia.   Mr. Spilhaus, also President of the National Textile Association in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, was serving as an advisor to the United States government on negotiation of the bilateral textile agreement with Vietnam.

He used the occasion of his far eastern trip to visit textile laboratories in Hong Kong and Japan for the purpose of evaluating their capabilities in the identification and analysis of cashmere and cashmere blend fabrics.  Mr. Spilhaus also visited CCMI members Toyoboshi Kogyo Co., LTD and Fukaki Woollen Textile Co., Ltd. in Osaka.  The visits were part of CCMI’s efforts to expand its program of enforcement of cashmere labeling to the Japanese market.  In the last year several actions have been taken against Japanese retailers for the sale of mislabeled cashmere products, resulting in the withdrawal of the offending goods from the market and re-labeling.
